I want to return this と言ったあとが難しいのが返品です。店員は、何が問題か、レシートはあるか、別の商品がいいのか返金がいいのかを聞いてきます。質問への答えまで準備しておくと、手続きがぐっと楽になります。
まず「商品・問題・希望」を伝え、期限と返金先を確認しましょう。
交換なのか返金なのか、目的から決める
- I'd like to exchange this for a medium, please. Mサイズに交換したいです。exchange A for B は「AをBに替える」という形です。
- It doesn't fit. Could I try a larger size? サイズが合いません。大きいサイズを試してもいいですか。服が体に合うかは fit を使います。
- There's a loose thread here. Could I exchange it for another one? ここから糸がほつれています。別のものと交換できますか。見える不具合を具体的に言います。
- I'd like to return this for a refund, please. 返品して返金してもらいたいです。refund は交換品ではなく返金です。
Could I get a refund? と Could I exchange this? は別の要求です。どちらを望むか決めてから話し始めると、店員も対応しやすくなります。
状況を聞かれたら、店への文句ではなく事実を言う
Staff: Is there anything wrong with it?
You: The zipper is stuck. I only tried it on at home.
Staff: Do you have the receipt?
You: Yes, here's the receipt. I bought it yesterday.
The zipper is stuck は「ファスナーが動きません」、It doesn't work は電化製品などが動作しないとき、There's a stain here は「ここにシミがあります」です。I only tried it on at home は「家で試着しただけです」なので、事実のときだけ使います。タグや包装、購入記録を保管し、受け付けられるかは店の規則で確認しましょう。
紙のレシートがなければ I have the email receipt on my phone. と言えます。Could you look up the purchase with my card? と購入履歴を頼る方法もありますが、どの店でもできるわけではありません。
帰る前に三つ確認する
- Will the refund go back to my original payment method? 元の支払方法に返金されますか。
- How long will it take for the refund to appear? 返金が反映されるまでどれくらいかかりますか。
- Is this exchange or store credit only? 交換かストアクレジットだけですか。
store credit はその店で使える額で、銀行口座へ戻る現金ではありません。海外購入では返品期限、送料、税も違う場合があります。購入前の What's your return policy?（返品規則は何ですか）が有効です。
一連の会話を自分の状況に置き換える
You: Hi, I'd like to return this shirt. It's too small, and I'd like a refund.
Staff: Do you have your receipt?
You: Yes, here's the email receipt. I bought it on Friday.
Staff: We can refund it to your original card.
You: Great. How long will it take to appear?
商品、問題、希望、購入証明、返金時期が短い文でそろっています。規則の説明が速ければ Sorry, could you repeat the last part? と聞き返しましょう。わかったふりをして帰ると、誤解が残ります。
1分で声に出す練習
- 身近なものを手に I'd like to return this... と言い、too small、doesn't work、実際の不具合のどれかを続けます。
- I'd like to exchange it for... と I'd like a refund. をそれぞれ言い、目的による文の変化を確かめます。
- Here's the receipt. How long will the refund take? を2回読み、購入日も自分のものに替えて言います。
