Question Sprints: Answer First, Then Add a Reason

A timed question sprint doesn't mean speaking complicated sentences for two minutes without breathing. It means hearing a familiar question and giving a direct answer, useful detail and natural next move within 20 to 40 seconds. Leave time between questions to notice what happened.

Prepare six familiar question cards

Use topics you can genuinely discuss, such as daily life, work or study: What did you do last weekend?, What kind of music do you enjoy?, Would you rather work from home or in an office?, or What's one thing you would change about your commute?

Don't turn an unfamiliar abstract issue into a vocabulary test. Write questions, not complete answers. The skill is constructing a response when the question changes.

Use three moves per answer

  1. Answer directly: I'd choose working from home.
  2. Add a reason or example: I can concentrate better when it's quiet.
  3. Add a relevant next move: But I'd still go in for team meetings. Or, when appropriate, What about you?

A follow-up question is not compulsory after every answer. A qualification, example or confirmation can be more natural than mechanically returning every question to the other person.

Shorten preparation, not pronunciation

On the first round, give yourself ten seconds to think and up to 30 seconds to answer. On the second, draw another related question and think for three seconds. Keep your speaking speed comfortable; faster isn't better if your words become unclear.

Mark where the pause happened: starting, explaining the reason, or ending. On another day, replace two cards with new questions to check whether you can transfer the skill instead of recalling one rehearsed answer.

Shorten an answer before expanding it

If the full question overwhelms you, give a simple direct answer first. I'd say... and It depends... can support a response but shouldn't become long delay tactics. To work on forming the questions themselves, see English question order; to continue the exchange, practise follow-up questions.

Take the response that blocked you most often into MirrorSay. Express your intended meaning, compare the natural version, listen and shadow it, then answer a new related question without reading. The timer creates a practice condition; flexible meaning-making is the actual goal.
